as an anthropologist

I will approach all of my inquiries from a holistic and cross-cultural point of view, situating each question in historical, environmental, and cultural context. The discipline will inform my perspective in countless ways. I will respect everyone.

as a community college instructor

I will challenge my students to think critically about every source of information, to believe in themselves as scholars, and to respect diverse ways of life and different points of view. I will give them the tools they need to succeed in their studies, and I will encourage and assist them to transfer to the four-year institutions where they will continue to lay the groundwork for their lives.

as an educator

I will use the tools of anthropology to invigorate school curricula, to address issues of diversity and multiculturalism, to inspire people to think critically and comfortably, as well as to answer some of life's hardest questions.

as a human being

I will do my best every day to be my highest self. I will give what I have, I will teach what I know, I will share what I believe, and in so doing, I will listen more than I speak. I will remember that I have something to learn from everyone; my body of knowledge will never exceed my body of ignorance. I will continue to grow.
