How I Got This Job |
||||||
|
Well, first I went to college. Actually, that's not entirely true. I went to college and dropped out and got a job and eventually got bored and then went back to school, eight years later. I failed physics once and statistics twice (before I dropped out) and *still* got into Columbia University's M.A. program. So it's not the end of the world if you get a C. Then I spent a couple of years making an insane amount of money (which of course I spent) and when the dotcom bubble burst it was okay with me because I was again bored stiff. At the ripe old age of 35, it was finally time to start doing something that was actually worth getting up in the morning for. I moved to the Bay area and began teaching two months later. Life is sweet! Cover Letter - Here's a link to the cover letter I sent with my application to Las Positas College. I consider it to be a personal mission statement because it concisely conveys my goals and motivations as an instructor. I offer it here as a tribute to my students; let it be a window into their teacher. Supplemental Questionnaire - As part of my application to the college, I was asked to answer four questions. While many applicants, I'm certain, saw this as a tedious chore and offered only brief answers, I saw it as an opportunity. Give me a chance to write about what I love and watch the pages flow! I've posted the document here because I'd like my students to know what the professorial application process is like, and because I'd like to share my answers with those who are interested.
